Hurricane Katrina and Rita's "VICTOMS"

What a laff. I have eluded a little to some of the "Victoms" actions...in the below blogs.

And I have posted a longer thought on my CLOSED forum to the members that i know will understand where I am coming from.

This was posted by one of my members today and it will tell the whole story...

Read and think seriously about what you read...Think of all the incidents where you hve seen simular, selfish, arrogant, unappreciative, sloven, behavior. There is way too much of this going on and being passed down to the children of the future... God Help Us ALL!!!!.

First My one story. I took my son down to the Minute Maid Ball Park in 2003 for American Idol.. Un like most other cities prior the people had to live outside for the 3 days. But becasue of a storm everyone was let into the Park that day. We were only in line for about 6 hrs but you should have seen the mess that was left on the sidewalk and parking area where they had us staged before we got let in. No excuse for this as there were trash cans etc placed all around for the trash to be put in.
Once we were in the Park (totally locked in for 3 days) it was no better. We all sat in assigned seats and then at night they let us go up to the round about where all the consesions and what not were to make pallets to sleep on. I like some slept on the floor by my seat or in the seat 9I can sleep just about any time andy where LOL.

any way there was about 7000 people camped out with about 3000 of them being the kids that were going to perform. i saw almost No one putting trash into a bin. Most people just threw their trash on the floor by their seats. (this was the first evening) I went up and procured a couple of large trash bags and tied them to the railings on our stairs hand rail. I replaced them each day. But if everyone would have use them they would have had to be replaced 3 times a day. At first no one would put any trash into the bags. So I got a bag and started at the top of the stairs and embarised everyone by going down and row by row requesting that the people sitting there pick up the trash and put it in the bag. i also said that if they were going to sleep on the floor there that they had better keep it clean... Had a full bag 1/2 way down. But sadly to say no one ever got the idea on the other stair hand rails to do the same.
the place was a TIP (Australian for garbage dump) by the end of the 3rd day. i just can't beleive that people are such PIGS>>>

Anyway now here is the Story Of Katrina forwered to me by Toulouse

I
thought I would forward this to you from a person who went to help the
ones who came to Houston from New Orleans, and the experience he had as
he wanted to help. If this offends you, I certainly do mean for it to
hit you that way. Some of it may be slanted with the man's anger after
people who were hurting and desperate, but I imagine that most of it is
true, as I have been seeing some of the same actions reported on TV
News.

Soooooooooo sad but tooooo true!!!

It's scarry to predict what is going to take place in the months/years
to come as a result of this disaster after reading this account of this
following report of the Houston volunteer!!!

HOUSTON'S NEW RESIDENTS

Here is the real truth. I went to volunteer on Saturday, September
10, to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Houston for two reasons.

1. I wanted to help people.

2. I was curious.

I have been watching the news lately, like everyone else, and I
have seen some scenes that have made me physically ill. No, it was not
the death and the destruction that made me ill. It was PEOPLE'S
BEHAVIOR that bothered me the most.

So many of the displaced people were DEMANDING help. They were not
asking nicely, but were demanding it - as if society owed them
something. Well, the honest truth is society does NOT owe them
anything! Help should be asked for in a kind manner and then
appreciated after received, but this is definitely not what the
different news organizations were witnessing and reporting.

What most of us have seen, on television and in the print media,
have been individuals/groups who are yelling, demanding, looting,
killing, raping, and even SHOOTING back at those who have arrived to
help. MSNBC even showed one news report of several New Orleans
policewomen looting a Wal-Mart!

I am thinking to myself, This cannot possibly be true - or can
it?!?! Truthfully, I did not want to believe this could be true of the
people who so desperately need help during this crisis. I now tell my
story, and you can decide.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I arrived at the Astrodome only to find out there were too many
volunteers at that location. Volunteers were needed elsewhere -
especially at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
As I walked up to the Convention Center, I noticed a line of
vehicles that wrapped around for blocks. These were "ordinary"
Houstonians coming with water, diapers, clothes, blankets, food, every
type of needed item; lots of it was NEW. As I helped to unload these
vehicles, I felt such great pride that the wonderful residents of
Houston would be so generous.
I then went inside the building and noticed approximately 100,000
square feet of clothing, toys, all types of needed items, that were
organized and ready for the people in need. I signed in as a volunteer,
received a name badge, and was on my way, eager to be useful.
I toured the place to become familiar with my surroundings. The
entire Center is probably about 2 million square feet. I noticed rows,
as far as the eye could see, of mattresses - not cots - but blown-up
mattresses, that had nice pillows and plenty of blankets. There were
also two or three bottles of water resting on each bed. These full-size
to queen-size mattresses, by the way, were comfortable. I briefly
rested on one of them, just to see for myself!
Next I went to look at the medical area, and I could not believe
what I was seeing. A makeshift hospital had been created in 24 hours!
They even had a pharmacy.
As my tour continued, I also noticed that other volunteers had
worked hard to create showers...with hot water! Then upstairs, on the
third floor, I found a huge cafeteria that had also been established in
24 hours. There were rows and rows of tables and chairs and food
everywhere! There was enough food to feed an army, and I am not talking
about crappy food either! They had Jason's Deli food, fresh fruit,
snack foods, sandwiches and lots of beverages. By the way, the
beverages were put on ice and chilled!! All of this "mini-city" -
including a library and a theater room - had been created in about 24
hours by volunteers, so the evacuees would have a comfortable shelter.
Here is what further happened during my time there. I started by
handing bottles of COLD water to evacuees, as they exited their bus.
Many took the water, but only 20% or less even said, "Thank you." Lots
of the evacuees would shake their heads and ask for sodas! This went on
for about 20-30 minutes, until I was weary of being an unappreciated
servant. I then decided that certainly these folks would appreciate
some food! So, I went upstairs to serve these evacuees with some GOOD
food. (Food that I wished I could have had at the moment!)
Evacuees came slowly to receive this mountain of food, worthy of a
king, that was being served. I explained to them that we had two types
of great deli sandwiches to choose from: ham and turkey. Many looked at
the food in
and DEMANDED burgers, pizza, and even McDonalds! (Let me tell all of
you folks who may read this, that Jason's Deli is better than McDonalds
any day!!) Even many of the children were demanding and rude! Only one
out of ten people who took something would say, "Thank you." The
remainder took items, as if it were their God-given right to be served,
without a shred of appreciation. Some even asked for beer and liquor!
Many complained that we did not have "good-enough" food. Some went so
far as to refuse the offers of food and laughed at and/or cursed at the
volunteers. This was not true of all of them, but at least 70% of the!
e evacuees treated us volunteers with total disrespect. Maybe 20% were
appreciative, 10% took the food without any comment, and the remainder
had some disgusting comment to say.
We volunteers then began to observe that many of the people would eat
their food and leave their mess on the table. Oh sure, a few would
clear their tables, but the majority left their tables for the
volunteers to clear and clean. Needless to say, I was in utter shock at
their behavior.
From the food area, I went down to help set up some additional
mattresses. That is when I observed something else! I saw many young
ladies carrying mattresses, but WHERE were the hundreds of able-bodied
young men evacuees who could help?! When I asked a group of young
evacuees in their teens and early twenties to help, they cursed at me!!
One said, "We just lost our ****ing homes and you want us to work?!?!"
The next one said, "Cracker, you got a home...we don't."
I looked at them in total disbelief. Here were women carrying THEIR
beds and these young men would not lift a finger to help themselves!! I
started to wonder, WHY SHOULD I HELP PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WANT TO HELP
THEMSELVES?!?!?! As I turned away, they laughed at me and made obscene
and distasteful comments. This is when I began realize that I did not
need to waste my time on a bunch of pitiful losers in this area of the
shelter.
Next, I went to a nearby restroom where I noticed a man shaving. I
used the restroom, washed my hands, and then saw this same man throw
his razor towards the trash can. He missed. He also walked out, leaving
his dirty razor on the floor for someone else to pick up!
I could call these people ignorant ("lacking knowledge"), but they
were not ignorant. They were arrogant ("proud and overbearing through
an exaggerated feeling of one's superiority")! To put it bluntly, the
majority of them are thugs...and lazy!
We are inviting the lowest-of-the-low to Houson and, like idiots,
we are serving the people who will most likely soon steal, rape,
murder, and attempt to destroy our beloved city. We are funding our own
destruction!
Please note, I am absolutely NOT referring to a specific race of
people!! People who WANT to help themselves should be helped in every
possible way. Those who do not want to help themselves should be left
to destroy themselves, but they should not be allowed to destroy
Houston at the same time.
I do not believe in being poor for life. My family immigrated here.
We came here very poor and now, thank God and due to HARD WORK, we are
doing well. If immigrants who come here - and do not even initially
know the language - can work and become successful, why can't the
majority of the other poor "homegrown" citizens do the same thing?!
I have personally just witnessed selfish, arrogant, unappreciative
behavior by the very people who needed the help the most. These same
people cursed me and other volunteers. They refused my city's
generosity. They refused to help themselves. They pranced around as if
they deserved to be waited on. When they did receive something, they
said it was not good enough. As far as I am concerned, from now on,
these people can fend for themselves!
Hurricane RITA
Morning,
I am sitting here approx. 100 miles directly due N of Galveston, and expecting winds in excess of 75 miles per hour.
I watched the news most of all yesterday on different channels. As usual I was not impressed with and of the Weather People. Just a bunch of sensationalized stories and pictures and really NOT a lot of "News or Information" that is help full.
At about 2 pm yesterday the Mayor was talking about bringing in FREE gas to the Preferred evacuation routes. When asked about the routes other than 45, 10 and 290, Tex Dot said that if you were not on the
Preferred" evacuation routes (those 3) then you had to fend for your self. I do not know when I10 became a "Preferred route" because when they put the 4 evacuation routes on the television Wednesday, there were 4 routes: 146 to Lufkin, 45 to Dallas, 290 to College Station/Austin and 146 to Lufkin/Jasper. Route map:
On the roads being turned into "One Ways" running North... They said that they could not do it for 59 because it ran through cities and towns and had cross traffic. But yet this morning in Beaumont and Lake Charles they have turned their main evacuation roads, above I10, into one way north... and most of those roads are just little roads that run through cities and towns.
Also they said that they could not do it for I10 as they needed it open for their emergency teams during and after the storm. Well, why not open it up and get the people out "Before the Storm" and then it would be clear and closed back up after the people are gone. DUH! So....what does TexDot have to say about that.
The news is still reporting on the immediate area around Houston and the freeways. They show the freeways all clear except for the ones stranded without gas. Why are they not going up the roads past Huntsville and towards Dallas and report on how the traffic is going? I heard that on 290 everything was clear from Houston to Waller County (not that far our of town) and then it gets bumper to bumper again. Well, News break is reporting that there is a bus fire just S of Dallas near Wilmer and has created a 17 mile back up.
Ok, Lets look at the realities of this whole thing.
With reports of the wind and rain in large amounts with this storm most all the cities and towns from Houston on up the citizens of these places went out Wed and Thur and put a run on the groceries and gas stations in their area. So very possibly there was no gas or groceries in these places before the evacuation even started. My Comment: I am sure the old timers knew to get gas cans and take at least a couple of them with them so as not to run out and get where they were headed. I know some did because it was reported. THINK before you leave you house. Use common sense... Be totally prepared.
When leaving home : Insure you take gas, water, and food. And if you are going in a Large auto or truck try to take extra if can so you can assist others.
We have been so spoiled buy a gas station or food store on every corner.. I remember when one never left home even to work with out a can of gas and water. What has happened to this country and the people???
Bulletin::: just ran buses to Cleveland and picked up a bunch of people that have had to leave their cars in the Wall-Mart parking lot. They will be taken to Austin but have got to leave their cars behind. My Comment: this is all fine and dandy but if they can get buses up there then why did not some one think to load flatbeds with 5gal gas cans full and just take gas to these people. 5 gallons would have gotten most of them to or past Lufkin. another DUH!!!!...
The thought I have on the Mandatory evacuation is this.
First: All the buses that took the people out of the 3 zones who did not have transportation were out of town and in their allocated shelter areas on schedule.
Each zone had an evacuation day and time. I realize that people have a tendency to do and go when and where they want. But I would have set up the evacuation in each zone this way.
1. tell people in vehicles that they need to meet in a selected area at a selected date and time (one of these "Park and Ride" car parks or a large shopping center with large parking lot)
2. at that day and time provide a police escort up the road towards the allocated shelter location. Kind of like a funeral procession. This would ensure that the Evacuees would get to the place they need to go without any time delays.
Keep the non- mandatory evacuees out of the way and tell them to please just stay put till the 3 zones are moved.
If this had been done in the first place there would have been plenty of time for all volunteer evacuation to be done with out clogging up the road ways. The government was very smart in not broadcasting the outlaying shelters... These shelters were for the Zone people. Sometimes the Media is more of a hindrance than a help...
I think, all in all the whole process went very well in moving as many people as they did. But I sure hope that the Government sits down and reevaluates the procedure for future....
Also If TexDot had staged some of these gas tankers along the evacuation routes instead of way out of town at roadside rests... there probably would not have been the clean up that there is now. All one would have had to do is:
On the day of the first evacuation stage the tankers every 10 miles up the routes above I10 (at one of the large Gas stations or Truck stops).
also have a truck loaded with water at same place (able to get gas and water at same time)
Now instruct that only people with proof of address from the evacuation area is to receive gas and water.
day 2 & 3, second & third evacuation area. proceed the same.
A side bar on the Routes and the traffic and assistance.
Did you know that 45 and I10 running from Houston to Dallas/San Antonio goes through very "well to do" counties and cities?
Did you know that 59 runs through some of the "Poorest" counties and cities in the state?
Second side bar on the people the media interviewed.
Watch closly, there were very little interviews with any group of people other than the African Americans. Did not see any with the Mexican American, Aisian American.....nor many with the Caucation American... :)
Wonder about the 39 horses in galveston that were being rescued? There was a guy that came all the way from North of austin to get 6 of them. Neaver heard anymore about them since yesterday.
Just rang ABC channel 13 news and they were going to do an update. Seems the reporter is catching a few ZZZZZZZZZ's at this time.
My final thoughts on any Act of Nature.
Follow your heart (this is God speeking) not you head.
Put your life and faith in God.
God is going to calll you home no matter where or what you are doing.
If you don't beleive this then read about all the tornados, fires, huricanes, etc that have gone through WHOLE neighborhoods and have selectively left homes etc totally intact with out any damage. The plane crash that one person has walked away from without a scratch. The car accident that mangles a car but the people have walked away from. The car accident that hardley dents the bumper and all or some inside are called home.
Hurricane KATRINA News results for katrina
JUST FOUND This is really disturbing: Washington Post Link will open your eyes:
Pictures and Vidios pages link:
I, as most of the world have been watching the tragedy of Katrina.
I hope everyone has been "Listening" not just hearing what is said.
Have we forgotten Mississippi, Alabama and Florida???? do you realize that if the levies had not been breached in NO that the Mississippi coast would be the most devistated area due to the storm. They received much more huricane damage than NO and Florida and Alabama. But because they only got the BRUNT of the storm they are proceeding to recovery much faster than NO. I am not even sure that they are getting any federal assistance (manpower or equiptment) You do not see them on the news or hear about any personal aid going to them?? I know that NO is the most in need at the time but LET US NOT FORGET THAT THE "HURICANE ITSELF" DAMAGED AND LEFT HOMELESS OTHER CITIES AND PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY.
this is what I have deduced from all the numerous media (including the BBC) broadcasts.
Bottom Line: If the Federal Government had not cut the budget for the revamping of the levies in NO there would be a great probability of it not breaking and flooding NO. Even though the levies were only built to withstand a cat 3.
so it is my bottom line opinion that the Federal Government is responsible for rebuilding and restoring all the houses and businesses that were affected by the flooding.
(IT WAS REPORTED THAT ANYONE AFFECTED BY THE FLOODING THAT DID NOT HAVE FLOOD INSURANCE WAS AT A TOTAL LOSS WITH OUT COMPENSATION----THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOODING)
If it had not been for the breach in the levy there would not have been the massive destruction in NO. The storm itself did minor damage to the coast line but left most of the area that was flooded untouched or at least in a condition that could have left everyone in there homes and normality restored in a normal amount of time.
Evacuations:
At the time of the first call to evacuate there was not the threat of flooding or levy breaks. As Katrina made landfall to the East of NO I can understand why people in the North West of the city would not consider evacuating. AGAIN if the levies had held there would have been not reason to evacuate.
I can also understand people that are still in the city and not threatened by the flood waters not wanting to leave. Especially if they have done the preparations for a disaster as many might have done for the 2000 scare. If one has done the disaster prepare then there is no reason to leave a standing and secure house or building and add to the refugee count and dollars needed to supply these refugees.
Fema and the RedCross:
You would think that they both would have learned a few lessons from 9-11. Why are these two organizations not organized and working together to handle these disasters? They need to get on the same page and get compatible computer programs so that it facilitates tracking and identifying people who get displaced or lost.
My suggestion. Work with the Social Security Department (everyone in this country has or is suspose to have a social security number DUH!)
Fema and Red Cross and all other organizations should be inputting all these people by ssn's, first & last names and their intake location. also having a site set up that people who have gone to other locations (friends-family-volunteer homes-hotels etc) can log on and input the same information (ssn, name and location/contact #)
All information from the intakes and websites should be sent to one central location so as people do not have to search all over the net and bullenten boards for loved ones.
I know all this can be done with a very simple computer program and there is no excuse for all the confusion and spreadout information.
FUNNY SIDE NOTE: This morning I listened to the news and found out that FEMA had taken over one of the hotels on Cannel Street and Had all utilities on including lights.
It puts me to wondering that if they can do this to a highrise building in the middle of the disaster, then why could not they have done something like this for the Super Dome?????
On that note: If this government can FLY in medical, MRE's and water to other countries within 48 hours after a disaster then why did not they do this for the thousands that were stranded in the Super Dome.
Here is how it should have happened. Immediately Fly in an organized guard to manage the people at the Super Dome. Fly in doctors, MRE's, Water to staging area (the I10 right there would have done good) and set up everything and start putting people through. RedCross could have been there to do an intake of people so they would have had a list of who was there. Sort people after intake to areas set up for different circumstances. (i.e. families, single people, children without adults, elderly, sick, very ill) this would have let everyone be assessed and the loading and evacuation of people could have run much more smother.
There is NO reason that anyone at the SuperDome should have perished....
I do think the Rescue Teams did excellent even though they were a bit late in getting started.
And that all leads me to the Subject of "the Governor or the State" having to "Request" Federal help before the Federal government authorizes and help (i.e. troops, equipment etc)
BOO on YOU FED GOV......The minute that a major city of over 500,000 people is in major distress YOUR ASS SHOULD BE THERE request or not...... If your neighbors house is on fire do you wait for them to come over and ask you for help????? NO you jump in there and do what you can. DUH.... And you call yourselves God Fearing Christian People.... Bull.....
I hate to say this but the late Gov Wallace had the right idea. "take care of your own backyard before you go taking care of someone else's!!!!!" I really think this country should get all their "stuff in one sock" before trying to take on the rest of the world.
Before 9-11 this countries budget was in the red and now it is so far in the red that Christ will be here before it is ever in the black. If I ran my household like this I would be locked up. I would like to help all the people in this country or who I see that needs a leg up but if I surpassed my budget or income to do it, again they would lock me up. So why should our government be allowed to spend money that they do not have.
I do not have an answer for this. Because we all know that the government, be it Fed, State or City that are supplying the infrastructure of this country. But let us understand that it is the people that , through taxes etc, are giving the government the money to do this.
This puts us back to the Taxing of the people. If the government is not getting enough tax dollars to do the job then the Tax system is in need of overhaul. And the government needs a large watchdog to stop the PORK or NON-ESSENTIAL spending of the money.
I am not going to get into that here (it is a whole other topic) but as a last note.
GAS: First the gas companies have showed over a 35% profit in the last 6 months. Now if those profits were in the millions and the government taxed them at even 25% no deductions or loop holes there would be quite a lot of money in the gov bank.
speaking of Gas: I heard (but only once, which means that the story has been squashed by someone) that Hawaii was going to cap all their gas prices and hold them at the cap price. No Increases.
Now I know it would be a good thing for the Fed Gov to do this for the Nation. But I also know that if they refuse that the States can do it if they want to. Remember the Late Gov Reagan capped the rents in California for a time to keep Landlords from going crazy. So I know this could be done if the Government was really concerned about all of us little people.
The gas has gotten so high and the Employers out there have not increased the Employees pay to compensate so right now we are all working just to make enough money to be able to buy gas to get to work. But again this is another topic for later.
I close this with Pride that so many of the country's people have come to the aid of their fellow country man & woman in the time of great need.
See the Washington Post Links at top of page for news and pictures.
FOOT NOTE: just spoke with a will educated person and all they could say is that there was enough blame to go around to all gov agencies.
But what one does not understand is that there would be NO BLAME to go around
IF THE FED GOV (BUSH) HAD NOT CUT THE LEVY BUDGET....... BOTTOM LINE THE FED GOV IS TO BLAME FOR ALL INCLUDING THE BLAME.
I am not a Bush Basher or Fed Gov Basher. I love my country but it just makes me sick when the government makes bad choices and invloves people lives. I thought the Government was to Protect and Serve...opps sorry that is the police another GOVERNMENTAL Dept. HUMMMMMMMMM
Remember our taxes are paying the governments wages and materials. Ya think it is time for a Tea Party. I don't mind being taxed but I do mind if the money is spent wongly.... and so should every one in this country.
Why are the polititions in Washington and the states paid more, plus furnished homes and all kinds of perks to set on their back sides, than the men and women who go out and fight in the dirt, loose sleep, get separated from loved ones and lead a worse life than our convicts. Are brains (and I use this loosley when talking about polititions) more highly valued in this country than the brawn and might of the fighting force?
don't mind the soap box here...at the last. Nothing can or will be done till the coming of the Lord and as fortold things are going to get worse not better.
all we can do is to follow our HEARTS, set good examples, take care of our own and say many prayers for all.
let us all pray for the swift coming of the Lord who can end all the injustice.
Cardinal John Ratzinger of Germany was elected pope
The Catholic Church has a new leader.
Cardinal John
Ratzinger of Germany was elected pope by the conclave of cardinals.
The new pontiff, who just turned 78 on Saturday, will be known as Pope
Benedict, the 16th.
Just after 11:00 Tuesday morning, the white
smoke went up from the Sistine Chapel chimney after just a few votes.
The bells tolled, and thousands converged upon
St. Peter’s Square, with emotions boiling over.
After the call
went out, Pope Benedict, the 16th walked onto the balcony to the cheers of the
faithful.
But, some Catholics are concerned.
As the bells rang, thousands converged
upon St. Peter's Square in anticipation to hear the announcement of the
new pope
The new pope is a staunch conservative and as a teen, he briefly marched as a
soldier in the Nazi Army, which is a post he deserted.
"The
hallmarks of the present pope, of the previous popes, pontificate were more
collegiality and dialogue, and that doesn't seem to be the reputation of
cardinal Ratzinger's style," said Catholic Theology Teacher Chris Longhurst.
Some believe the new pope is trying to soften his image by the
choice of his papal name.
The last pope who called himself
Benedict in the early 1900's was a moderate and unifier.
Pope
Benedict's history
Pope Benedict the 16th becomes the 265th pontiff of the
Catholic Church.
The 78-year old pontiff is originally from
Bavaria, Germany.
He was one of the closest aides of the late
Pope John Paul II and long considered a leading contender to succeed him.
Since 1981, he's been responsible for maintaining the Catholic Church's
hard line on issues such as birth control, abortion and euthanasia.
Pope Benedict is the first German pontiff since the eleventh century.
He’ll officially be installed as pope during a special mass on
Sunday.
Local
Reaction
All around the world the catholic community is cheering on
the newly elected pope.
The announcement came while the
Notre Dame Basilica had their daily 11:30 mass Tuesday morning.
The announcement of a new pope came
while many came to attend the 11:30 mass
The bells rang on campus, which marked the beginning of the new leadership.
“I’m very surprised and at the same time very elated,” said Notre Dame
student, Ben Currie.
As news spread quickly that a new pope
had been picked, many were unaware.
“One of my friends came up to me and
said, ‘did you hear the news’ and I was like, no,” said Clare Hadley,
another Notre Dame student.
By the time the daily 11:30 mass
started, a name was not known but people waited anxiously, until finally, it was
announced in church, and all over the world.
For students,
this will be the 2nd pope they have ever known.
“The church is so
blessed,” said Carol Schumaker, who attended the afternoon mass. “Ratzinger is
going to lead the church in the right direction.”
And,
many Catholics here say they are hopeful John Paul’s legacy will continue.
“I’m sure Benedict will follow in his footsteps in many ways,” said
Sister Mary Pius at Notre Dame. “We should be humble enough to accept that the
Holy Spirit is with the church and will guide the church.”
Bishop D’Arcy of the Fort Wayne Diocese said he believes
the new pope will be “a great teacher”.
The
President Emeritus of Notre Dame, Father Theodore Hesburgh
says the conclave “picked a great
theologian”.
And, as you
can imagine, many prayers are being said for the new pope around the world and
here in Michiana.
Lighters on Airplanes...Oh My
Well this is the silliest news I have ever heard.
This morning the news said that lighters were banned becasue of the guy who had the shoe bomb on the plane 2 years ago. It has taken them two years to get to this brilient conclusion about lighters? also it said that by banning lighters they will make it safer if anyone tryes to get on with another shoe bomb it will be harder for them to try and light it. But in the same breath they say that "Matches" are still allowed on the airplanes.
now let me see if I get this right:
No lighters because a bomber could light a bomb on the plane
Matches allowed though. ??????
last time I checked out techknowledgey they had bombs that could be activated by a switch or button even from outside the plane on the ground.
I agree to a point about the lighters on planes. But the reasons they give for the ban just don't hold water. Why don't they just say the truth of it.
I am totally amazed at the stuff and rules that are passed and the "Reasons" that are given. They must think the American Population is "stupid" or something. Most excused for things done will not hold water when closely (or in this case not so closley) examined. Even the news media when they read the story thought the reasons and the timing were "Bull". And we know the news media is not always the brightest match in the box. LOL
I have since traveled the "Friendly Skys" and the airlines say that the Media's report as to "why no lighters" is incorrect. the real reason is that with the pressured plane the lighters (including the good old Zippos) could explode and cause an incedent....
Now this one just does not wash either.. as an excuse because in all these years I have yet to hear of there being an incedent or crash due to an exploding lighter. butane or other wise.
so I guess we are still left with out a good explination as to "why no lighters" not even in checked baggage.
Now here is a good one. I met a gentleman that came to Houston from Canada and he carried 5 lighters with him the whole way and never had them taken away. In Phoenix there was a lady that had traveled accross the country with her lighter.
so I deceided to test the waters. i put my lighter into my 1/2 empty cigerett package and put it in my purse that went through the x-ray machine and not a word was said.
I do not like going against the grain when it comes to the airport but I just had to give it a go.
So now that leaves us with "security, what security?"
Foot note. i was wearing thong like sandles (ya know, leather between the toe and strap across the instep)
I was told to take them off and put them through x-ray.
No wonder i have not flown since 9-11....LOL what a joke.
What is Happeness
I am writing this to a friend that once asked me this question and I think I can in a way answer it now.
A long time ago I had the subrubain (yupie) dream. A house of my own, a couple of cars, a great career and a child. And a young person (Jay) once asked me why with all the American Dream was I not happy and seemed to always be blue. I guess that at the time the house and place I was living was not the house or place I eventually wanted to be living. The career that I had was not what I really wanted to be doing. The material possetions that I had were not in their proper places in the home I wanted in the location I wanted to live. At least that is the reason in those days that I told my slef that I was not happy or content.
Now 20 years later I am living in the location I dreamed of. I am working on the house that I dreamed of. I have accomplished all the goals that I had set out to accomplish (found my birth mother -a whole nother book LOL, found I had a half brother, found my son of 1968 that I had given up, parasailed, visited many foregin countries, retired from my career with enough money as to not have to work for wages ever again, bought over 10 acres of PineTree wooded land and rebuilt 2 houses and have rental income, live in a well built house (still not my dream house)while working on finishing my dream house. I have God in my life, a "friend" next door, a grown son who I am so proud of, I spend most of my days on the computer desigining websites and pages, What is there not to be happy and content about. It is the ultimate Dream. With out winning the LOTO...:) or having millions of dollars. It has all been done on (what some people think is not enough) a military income. And all on my own with no assistance from anyone. What is there not to be proud of ?!..
So why am I still not Happy.???
I come to beleive that true happness is a little leanto with just enough space to get by on and your best friend or soul mate there to enjoy life with. I think material things and responsiblities tend to get in the way of happness. Doing what you really love to do seems to be the theme to "happiness" but once you are there does it really fill that "happy" hole?
What is life without someone to laff with, someone to talk to, someone to just be silent and enjoy God's world with with? And I do not mean just anyone can fill this catagory. How many times do we settle for less than we want or need in a friend or mate? I do not think that there is a "Happness" thing ever. I think it is more of a "contentment" issue. Is your heart and head at peace ?
There will always be times even in a content place that the blues or a bit of depresion will creap into. We are not Adam and Eve in the Garden. You see even they were not totally happy or content or they would have obayed God. And when they were kicked out then life took a real change and I think mankind has been looking for the garden ever since. I don't think there is total Peace, Contentment or Happness till one goes home to be with the Lord. We can not replicate the Garden down here no matter what we do or have. So in most cases we have to "Settle" for what bit or moment of Peace, Contentment and Happness we can aquire while down here.
Sometime I think that small hole in our souls are created by God to keep us moving onward and upward. For if we were in a place of total Peace and Contentment how would we learn more and advance in our lessons of the earth and become better people.
I love the Book of Job. It has so much to teach us every time we read it there are new leasons to be learned.
I guess I really have not answered the question of "What is Happness" but the only way to answer that is that "Happness is going home to be with the Lord". And after all is that not our ULTIMATTE goal on this earth? To learn all that we can here on earth and eventually go home?!!!.
Old Best Friend Located
I am so Jazed....yesterday I spent an enormous amount of time on the WWW and on the phone and finally after 18 years located my Best Friend ever. And was able to make contact with them last night.
There has been the bigest black hole in my soul for the past 18 years and things are so much better this morning. Woke up feeling almost whole again.
What people write in little sayings about "what a friend is" is so true but the list is so much longer and deeper when it is your best, life long frined.
This is a person that:
you can tell "Everything" to and have them understand and not judge becasue probably they have gone through it to. This road runs both ways because they know and do tell you everything and you totally understand.
when you have a conversation most time you can use just a few words and each one knows exactly what you are saying and what you mean. No need to spend time trying to explain exactly how you feel or what you really mean.
you turst each other with your life more than you trust even your spouse or kids.
when you are together or even apart by many miles there is nothing that you can't do, accomplish or get through. There is support and encouragement just a phone call away.
when one or the other is in trouble there is no mountain that you won't move to help and set thing right or just listen and have a shoulder to lean on.
even though you may have major dissagrements and not speek or see each other for years there is always forgiviness and instant rebonding. We all are human and not perfect and a best friend will know this and except each other with all the good and bad.
there is never any need to repete anything said becasue you both listen and take in what is said and remember it all.
One is lucky and blessed by God if they have but One BEST FRIEND in this life time and should treasure this because it is more precious than all the money or power in this world.
I guess one would call their best friend and them "Soul Mates" .
Discrimination of Smokers (where is my alcohol free lane)
Ok, where to start.
I was under the impression that when the TV took off the ads for tobacco off that it also took the alcohol companies ads off. But now I see hard liquor and now Beer commercials on the television.
Why is not RJR suing under the discrimination law on this. I think that if the alcohol companies can advertise then the tobacco companies should be allowed.
Just heard on the BBC that the WHO (World Health Org) is trying to make harsher rules in other countries on tobacco.
This all just makes me MAD... I think that alcohol cause much more damage to people than smoking.
You don't see a smoker on Skid Row with loss of Job, Home and Family but alcohol will and does cause all of the above. Alcoholism is just like smoking as it is a slow killing machine with many days and or years in hospital after many years of use.
Why are not people going as hard and heavy after the alcohol companies as they are going after the tobacco companies? I think this is unjust and very discriminatory....
3 cases in point (personal experiences)
1. Standing in grocery check out line. Man in front of me with case of beer and 2 bottles of hard liquor. Checker says nothing to him at all.
I get to checker and she says to me. "you know that those cigarettes are bad for you and you should quit". I reply, "Why are you so concerned about me smoking when you just let a customer with a large alcohol purchase check through and you said nothing to him about the dangers of drinking or that he should quit? I should sue you for discrimination." If you are not going to tell everyone about the harm of DRINKING then you should not be telling anyone about the harm of smoking.
2. Checking in at boarding area of Plane. Boarding lady says "Oh you are a smoker (smelled it on my clothes) you should quit" I say "when you smell alcohol on someone do you say the same thing about drinking?" she says "no" I say then why would you say anything to me about smoking. I should you sue your for discrimination. Again why would people give caution to smokers and not to drinkers. This is just unacceptable.
3. Last case in point. Boss always telling me I should quit smoking. Asked boss why he always harasses me about smoking, He says that he is concerned for my health. Ask boss if he is concerned about other employees health. He says yes. I say "then why do you let 2 employees sit at the bar from opening to closing every day drinking till they are drunk and say nothing to them about drinking and quitting?" "until you start harassing them about drinking don't come harass me about smoking." Boss never again said anything about my smoking and also never did anything about the alcoholics in his employee...
What is wrong with these three examples....??
They say that smoking is more dangerous than drinking. But I have yet to see (just a smoker) kill people with a vehicle when he has had too much to smoke... I have never seen a smoker not go to work and get fired from his job from smoking...
Loose his house and family because of smoking.
What RJR needs is ads that compare smoking to drinking. And wake up the country to get on the Band Wagon to stop drinking. Since neither one are illegal It either needs to be a fair across the board against both or shut up and leave the both alone.
They make smoke free zones. Where is my drunk free driving lane???? I take my life in my hands every time I get behind the wheel. There is no drive safe place for me. I run the risk of getting hit by a drunk driver every time I get on the road.
Drinkers are obnoxious,
Drinkers are always in fights
Drinkers are dangerous behind the wheel of a car
Drinkers are Wife and child abusers
You can't say this across the board about smokers.
About the below stats. I am a bit worried about the 2nd leading cause of death here: Poor diet and Inactivity. Does that mean that soon the companies will demand that we eat right and exercise or be fired from our jobs because we are a high medical risk for their company? already some states suport the right of the employer to fire anyone who smokes even on their own time. There are only 22 states at the moment who suport the Persons individual rights.
WHERE WILL IT ALL END. !!!!!!!!!
THIS SHOULD SCARE THE BEGEBIES OUT OF YOU!!!!!
WE ARE SLOWLY LOOSING ALL THE RIGHTS OUR FOREFATHERS
FOUGHT FOR AND MADE FOR US.
IT ALL STARTED WITH THE SEATBELT LAW.
YOU HAVE TO DO THIS *****
TO HAVE THE PRIVILAGE OF DOING THIS******
FILL IN THE BLANK..
THIS COUNTRY IS NO LONGER A DEMOCRACY
THE 10%ERS RULE
The leading causes of death in 2000 (the latest figures available) show alcohol consumption the third highest cause of death in the country.
The Journal of the American Medical Association, Jan. 19, 2005, Vol. 293, No. 3, p. 298, reported on the leading causes of death in the United States:
  • Tobacco (435,000 deaths; 18.1% of total US deaths)
  • Poor diet and physical inactivity (400,000 deaths; 16.6%)
  • Alcohol consumption (85,000 deaths; 3.5%)
    (Note: 16,653 deaths from alcohol-related vehicle crashes are included in both Alcohol consumption above and Motor vehicle crashes below.)
Good reading about smoking and alcohol related illnesses. Seems that most of them have the two in common for risk factors.
    Google Now Has PHONE Search. (NOT GOOD)
    this is really true..I tried it..since my phone number is unlisted ..private..it does not show mine..but I tried my mom's number and it showed a map to her house.
    please do the block thing for your safety and the children.
    Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be given a map to their house. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked.
    Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing my telephone number in google.com.
    My phone number came up, and when I clicked on the Map Quest link, it actually mapped out where I live.
    Look up your own number. Think about it--if a child, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious.
    In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: http://www.google.com/ Type your phone number in the search bar and hit enter.
    The button for this is RIGHT ON THE MAIN PAGE BEFORE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!!!
    If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information here is the link to the form http://www.google.com/help/pbremoval.html Google PhoneBook Name Removal
    Or if your # shows up you can do a removal on that page towards the bottom of page.
    Removal takes 48-hours. If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there, but it is a good idea just to check. If your number does come up if you hit map, it will show you a direct map to your house.
    Reading Test Passed and GED Taken
    See below for history.
    Well, Son took the GED (that he needs by may ) to continue in Jr. College. Won't know the results for 2 weeks.
    He said that is was like the College test he took but easier. So I have great feelings about this and know that he did well.
    He retook the Reading placement test for College Wed last and missed by 4 points (need an 80) then took the timed one (need 41) this last Monday and got a 43 so we are on our way doing college courses that he needs to be doing, to get a degree as a Physical Education Teacher.
    There is an excelerated Psychology class that is a requirement for the degree that he is doing and will register tomorrow. It starts March 21 to June 1st. this will be his first College Course with credits (3). So only 9 more credits to go for the 12 required to transfer over to Sam Houston Uni. So he should be on track and ready (almost 1 semester ahead) by August. Now if he could just deceide which College he is going to... Kids.
    All is good in the money Dept also.. He has a Pell Grant for this year but you have to apply every semester. But no doubt that it won't be a problem. And no crunch time this time for me. We are on the Yellow Brick Road and doing well.
    Hang that stupid High School and them thinking they could ruin his education chances. idiots.
    read on (updates)
    Son Passed and now has his GED. (Feb 2005) What a road this has been. Alot was learned. Especially that there is no child, that really wants to go to College, than can not do so. There is a really good system inplace (with a little research and paperwork) that will alow any child regardless of income, to further their education. There is no excuse what so ever for a child to not go to college.
    (History)
    School System-Problelms
    Ready for the Funny Farm
    Son Finally in Jr. College
    Worm targets MSN Messenger users!
    Worm targets MSN Messenger users!
    http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2005/feb/03msn.htm
    February 03, 2005 17:45 IST
    A new variant of Bropia worm is doing the rounds through MSN Messenger, a popular instant messaging platform.
    Trend Micro has issued a 'medium risk' alert on the worm, which attempts to send copies of itself in different filenames to all online contacts, pretending to be alluring images. What users get is a comical photo of a roasted chicken with a bikini tan line!
    The worm also bears the Agobot worm as part of its payload, capable of opening backdoor on infected systems. Instances of this worm attack have been reported from Taiwan, China, Korea, and the US.
    The Worm_Bropia.F leaves a copy of itself in the Windows system folder, and then tries to propagate to other MSN Messenger users by sending a copy of itself under one of these filenames: Bedroom-thongs.pif, Hot.pif , LMAO.pif , LOL.scr Naked_drunk.pif, New_webcam.pif, ROFL.pif, Underwear. Pif and Webcam.pif.
    The worm also executes a file called 'sexy.jpg', which displays a photo of a chicken that appears to have cooked in the oven with its bathing suit on.
    Once it has infected a system, the worm drops a bot program that Trend Micro detects as Worm_Agobot.ajc, which drops a backdoor into the infected system, and may allow commands to be executed from a remote malicious user.
    Worm_Agobot.ajc can also steal the Windows Product ID, as well as the CD keys of certain applications.
    "Many corporations have been blocking use of instant messenger programs for employee productivity reasons, and now may have good cause to do so for security reasons as well," commented Joe Hartmann, senior virus researcher for Trend Micro Inc.
    "With the popularity of instant messengers, it may be the home users who are most at risk as this worm uses humour to make people forget that they are being infected and backdoors are being opened into their systems."
    Worm _Bropia.F arrives in a file about 184 KB in size. It affects Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP platforms.
    Mr. M Jackson is in the news again
    Well, here we are at the onset of Mr. Jackson's Trial.
    My personal opinion is that he is being railroaded just like Mrs. Stewart was. Only I am hoping that the out come will be better for Mr. Jackson.
    Why is it that this country has it out for People who do the most good and are not in the news for "Doing Bad" but in there as to the good that they do? Why is it that the majority of people in this country hate to see some one do well and progress up the ladder of success (not on the backs of others or over others) but on their own merit?
    There are many famous people out there that have done far worse things than either Mr. Jackson or Mrs. Stewart (were or are accused o)f but you don't see them being drug over the coals of the justice system or the media.
    Everyone is out for a buck or two and want to cause harm or deferment to a persons integrity these days. It is unforgivable....
    When the neighbor comes down and ashes me to keep my child out of their tree (because he is afraid of a law suite if the child should get hurt) there is something very wrong in our "Society" (opus there is that word again LOL)
    When co-workers are afraid to complement or just have a civil conversation with one another (for fear of a sexual harassment suite) There is something very wrong in our "Society"
    When there is an accident and the people immediately hire a "Crook Lawyer" instead of first trying to handling it through the insurance Company (that is what we pay insurance for - for the Companies to handle the accidents for us) There is something very wrong in our "Society"
    When the media actually deems you "Guilty" or "Not" before you even go to trial.. There is something very wrong in our "Society"
    So back to Mr. Jackson and the millions of dollars that both he and the "State of California" are going to spend to take this to trial...
    I am glad that "Broke" California has all that money to burn.... The same goes for The Mr. "Barretta" trial and the Simpson Trial....
    I am not saying that they should not have their day in court to prove or disapprove the allegations. Just.... that because of the Media hype and all it is going to cost the Taxpayers more money than if it was just Mr. John Doe on trial for the same thing. Something is wrong with our "Society"...
    I Have watched the progress of Mr. Jackson since his first days on TV with his Brothers.
    I am appalled with what they had to go through with a "show Biz" father but I do realize that parents must do what they can to forward the career of their children (Children seldom have the push or drive or the sense to see way into the future) and parents can see the big picture and know that in the end the child should be grateful for the pushing...(although I know not all children are) But stating this I am reminded that before the 60's a child's career was much more abused by the parents than in recent times. (thank goodness for some protective laws that have come into effect)
    Who knows though that the pushing, etc. from his dad was not what was required in molding him into the Child loving and giving person he has become.
    I don't t hink he would or could molest or abuse a child. Usually when people have gone through this in their Child Hood it is not feasible that they could treat someone like they had been treated. Regardless of the 10%ers that are on telly saying that the reason they are bad is because of their upbringing.... Bull Pucky.... They, like most of the young people now days, just want someone to blame for things they do and will not take ownership of their actions...
    But the bottom line ( and what I always tell my sons) "It really does not matter what the people on earth say or do to you". "God knows all and you will either be punished or redeemed in the end times for what you do or don't do and be persecuted for"
    I am remembering a part from the Bible that says two or more must witness the crime for it to be considered and than just not 1 person can bring charges against you. It does not say anything about circumstantial evidence. It says 2 or more persons....
    I know that in this day and age of Forensic Investigation one can get better proof of a crime.
    Look at all the accused sex offenders now getting released because the new evidence proves they did not do the crime. Look at the bull evidence that put them behind bars before the new technology.
    It is a sad world we live in when a group of people can get together and plot to bring down someone they don't like or want money from.
    I want to say to those boys that are the accusers that "Remember that God knows all and that
    you should be very careful". There have been a few case in the news of children accusing their dads of abuse and when the child grows up they confess that the adults around them corkscrews them into a falsehood. I sure hope that this case is not like that and that Mr. Jackson has his integrity spoilt and possible jail time and then the grown kid comes back and confesses that they were manipulated by an adult.
    I have seen sex harassment charges brought on people just because the person bringing the charges did not like them. And instead of researching it to the hilt they act as if the person is guilty right off...And after the person is finale found not guilty the stigma still goes with them through out life. We as responsible people (especially the media) should really look at and weigh the evidence before OPENING MOUTH to accuse.
    Holy Humor!! BUT OH SO TRUE
    1. There was a church that had problems with outsiders parking in its parking lots, so they put up a sign:
    CHURCH CAR PARKING - FOR MEMBERS ONLY,
    TRESPASSERS WILL BE BAPTIZED!
    That took care of the problem!
    2. "No God - No Peace? Know God - Know Peace."
    3. "Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!"
    4. "Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins."
    5. "Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!"
    6. An ad for one Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads: "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets."
    7. When the restaurant next to another Church put out a sign with big red letters that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too."
    8. "People are like tea bags - you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are."
    9. "Fight truth decay - study the Bible daily."
    10. "How will you spend eternity - Smoking or Non-smoking?"
    11. "Dusty Bibles lead to Dirty Lives"
    12. "Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world."
    13. "It is unlikely there'll be a reduction in the wages of sin."
    14. "Do not wait for the hearse to take you to church."
    15. "If you're headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns."
    16. "If you don't like the way you were born, try being born again."
    17. "Looking at the way some people live, they ought to obtain eternal fire insurance soon."
    18. "This is a ch_ _ ch. What is missing?" ----- (U R)
    19. "In the dark? Follow the Son."
    20. "Running low on faith? Step in for a fill-up."
    21. "If you can't sleep, don't count sheep. Talk to the Shepherd."
